At The Movies @ Home

Not in the mood to take a trip to the movie theater? Create one at home! I have seen some of the elaborate home theaters some people have, and they are divine! But we all are not fortunate enough to have some of those so make do with keeping it simple.

Now Playing

Can you imagine? LOL, my favorite movie of all time, Jaws! I HAVE to watch it at the beginning of summer and the end, or it’s just not summer for me. I think I’ll stick to a home movie theater though!

When you are ready for sound, contact our friend Mark at South County Sound and Video, his info is at the bottom of the page.

Design

There are so many possibilities of room set-up, but they are mostly the same in the fact that the best viewing option is similar to a sunken living-room type setup. Remember those from the 70s? It really was a great design.

I LOVE the fireplace under the TV.
So cozy looking even though couch is large.
The U-shaped couch is the ultimate best.

Extras

What’s a home movie theater without snack? There’s no need to go crazy, just keep it simple with these ideas.

You can’t forget the popcorn! This one is a counter-top popcorn maker but depending on the size of your room, you could get one of the standing ones. I had a standing one in one of the homes we rented, and I bought one of those custom vinyl wall stickers that read “Davis Family Theater.” It was so fun having a space in the lower level for a home movie theater.

You could buy candy in bulk from Amazon (or even Walmart) and serve them up in plastic containers from the Dollar Tree like above. When done, just cover them and store. Serve them on a countertop that’s a makeshift concession stand. Watch out for candy sales after Halloween, it’s always half off! Some you can freeze for a later date.

These LOOK like ice cream cones, but they are actually cake baked in an ice cream cone but if you don’t want to do all that, just unwrap a prepared cupcake and put it in the cone and pipe with frosting and candy sprinkles. You can serve ‘faux ice cream’ at your concession stand as well. Kids big and small would love these.
