End of the Road/ Fall Favorites
Thank you for hanging in there for 33 episodes of “Road Trip Friday!” We have been to MANY places and seen many things of delight. I hope you have enjoyed it as much as I have enjoyed bringing it to you. We started Road trip Friday almost an entire year ago on 1/17/25! I will simply transition Friday posts to “Weekend Edition” as I don’t know where or what I want to bring to you yet for the future. So, we will have Coffee Cup Mondays and Weekend Edition Fridays as Blog posts from here on in. Thank you all so very much for your support. Looking forward to new things.
You all already know that Fall is my favorite time of year, and I am in my glory! I love everything about the season, especially the weather having nice days and cooler nights for sweaters and fire pits and long comfortable walks. Rustling leaves and the smell of them entice me to get in the kitchen and make some soup and all things apples! I love homemade apple sauce, apple tarts, pie, cider and my salads are not complete without chopped apples and cranberries on it. Let’s go apple picking…
Barden Family Orchard
John Barden and Hazel Dean were married in 1930 and founded Barden Family Orchard in 1931. They planted some of the first apple trees along the eastern edge of the orchard. These are the oldest trees on the farm and are evidence of John Barden’s keen interest in the science of apple-growing. They were “grafted” many years ago, meaning that a new cutting was placed in the notch of a branch of an existing tree to produce a different variety on that tree. These particular trees have a mixture of Cortland, McIntosh, and Macoun branches. John was excited to experiment with new apple varieties and enjoyed growing fruit into his early 80s. Barden Family Orchard now grows a wide variety of apples, pumpkins, winter squash, peaches, and blueberries and has added raspberries, and periodically, sunflowers! They began offering sweet apple cider in 2008 and their own apple cider doughnuts in 2022.

In 2005, they became full-time farmers, dedicating themselves to growing quality fruits and vegetables for those dedicated to buying locally grown produce. Since then, the entire Barden Family has been involved in the farm. They work together along with a very dedicated staff from crop production through harvest, attending farmer’s markets around Rhode Island, meeting customers who make their annual trip to pick apples and peaches, or the weekly customers that visit the farm market that opened in 2007. The Barden family is dedicated to growing high-quality fruit with excellent flavor. They invite you and your family to come and enjoy their farm.

Apple Season
I hope you have a great weekend and possibly spend it apple picking! Pumpkin is my favorite, and I can’t wait to make a pumpkin pie as well as my homemade applesauce. It’s my season after all! Have a glass of wine to celebrate the end of Road Trip Friday!
